Leather industry’s Ambur Open Three kicks off in Tamil Nadu

The leather group of Ambur in Tamil Nadu will today host the third edition of one of the county’s largest exhibition on finished leather, footwear components, accessories and technology in the leather and connected products. TÜV SÜD South Asia as one the leading service provider of testing, examination and certification services is proud to be linked with the event for the third successive year.
TÜV SÜD South Asia has a leather testing lab at Ambur that boasts of state-of-the-art gear and technology that provides complete testing capabilities ranging from physical testing, presentation and quality testing, and regulatory testing in the leather and footwear sector.
Additionally the lab also carries out social fulfillment testing for Europe, UK & US, to which more than 75% of leather artificial in India is exported to. The unique Footwear Mark for ensuring quality and safety is one more value addition that is only offered by TÜV SÜD South Asia.
Mr. Suresh Kumar ,VP- Product Services, TÜV SÜD South Asia said that ‘The TÜV SÜD leather testing lab was set up in 2010 with an aim to sustain leather manufacturers and exporters of Ambur and nearby areas to meet global quality and safety standards through fast delivery and cost competence. We are proud to have contributed to the progress of the cluster and the growth of Ambur Open through the years stands indication to it’.
Tamil Nadu is one of the leading states for India’s leather exports and is home to almost 50% of tanneries in the nation. Approximately 45% of leather and leather crop exported from India are artificial in Tamil Nadu. Until the lab was inaugurated in early 2010 leather samples from the bunch had to be sent to Chennai, Bangalore & Hong Kong for testing. With the certification services comprehensive at their doorstep, Indian manufacturers have been able to rapidly recover their export capabilities and grow their businesses exponentially.
This is for the first time that shoe developed equipment will be showcased at the event. Ambur Open 3 is aimed at providing a platform to manufacturers and exporters to cabinet their capabilities and explores new sourcing ideas.
Over the past 2 years the event has prolonged its exhibitor base which has helped participants explore new business proposition. Leading tanners will display their wares at the event which will be attended by product manufacturer from across the country. Some of the finest leathers for shoes, handbags/accessories and leather clothes for the Spring Summer 2013 season will also be on display.
